Dermal Fillers in Cleveland, Ohio

Dermal fillers are a popular treatment for patients looking to add volume to specific areas of the face. They are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines, soften creases and augment areas to balance facial aesthetics. The most common areas treated in our dental office are lips and static wrinkles around the mouth, focusing on those parts of the face that will enhance your smile!

About Our Injectable Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers used in our office are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your body. These hyaluronic acid fillers, specifically Juvéderm®, help keep skin plump and hydrated while blending nicely into the tissue.

Juvéderm is made by Allergan, the makers of Botox. Other variations of Juvéderm include Juvéderm Ultra, Juvéderm Ultra Plus, Voluma, Vollure, and Volbella. The specific injectable dermal filler used on each patient will be determined by our consultation, where we discuss the areas to be treated and our goals for treatment. Juvéderm is also infused with lidocaine to help minimize discomfort during treatment and, at our office, we can administer an anesthetic dental block so it is a quick and painless procedure!

Hyaluronic acid fillers are minimally invasive and generally very safe. They typically last anywhere from 6 to 12 months before the body gradually and naturally absorbs the particles. Some of the most common side effects of injectable dermal fillers include:

  • Allergic reaction
  • Bruising at the injection site
  • Numbness
  • Temporary redness
  • Swelling
  • Pain/tenderness
  • Discoloration

Dermal filler injections require very minimal downtime, allowing patients to return to work and their normal activities directly following treatment. For the first 24 hours, individuals may be instructed to refrain from strenuous activities and excessive sun or heat exposure. An advantage to using hyaluronic acid fillers is that if there is an adverse reaction or the outcome of treatment is not as expected, these dermal fillers can be broken down enzymatically using an injection called hyaluronidase!

Dentists who are able to administer dermal fillers are highly trained in the muscles and vasculature of the face and are very knowledgeable on the uses of dermal fillers to enhance your smile and overall facial aesthetics.
